Managing Reproduction Settings

Modified on Tue, 15 Apr at 11:35 AM

This article offers information about the reproduction settings. These settings influence the data and animals visible in the In heat worklist, Reproduction checks worklist, Dry off worklist and Calving worklist. Adjust these settings to align the list with your farm’s breeding and management goals.

To optimally use Nedap Now, make sure to check all reproduction settings.

Follow these steps:

  1. Select the Settings app.
  2. Select the appropriate farm, if you have more than one farm in your Nedap Now company.
  3. Select Reproduction in the left pane, and adjust the settings if required.
  4. Select Save.

Important

If you have more than one farm in your Nedap Now company, make sure to adjust the settings for all farms.

Explanation per Setting

Seasonal Calving
Only select when the farm has seasonal calving. For more information on seasonal calving go to the following articles: (under construction).

End Voluntary Waiting Period

The voluntary waiting period determines when cows are ready for insemination after calving. By default, these periods are set to accommodate average herd performance. You can adjust the voluntary waiting period for your youngstock, first lactation cows and older cows.

Tip

The young stock settings specify when they should be included in the in heat worklist. Set it early enough, to ensure young stock are detected during their first heats, preventing missed breeding opportunities.

Regular Heat Cycle

The regular heat cycle affects the heat score. In Nedap Now, the default heat cycle length is set between 18 and 24 days. However, some herds may require adjustments:

  • Young stock often have shorter cycles and may benefit from a setting closer to 16 days.
  • Older cows may experience irregular or longer cycles and might benefit from a setting closer to 27 days.
In Heat
You can customize the In heat worklist to include specific groups of animals. By default, the system includes pregnant animals and excludes animals in VWP and dry, non-pregnant animals

Sexed Semen
When using sexed semen, you can modify the timing for optimal insemination for sexed semen to align with the timing that works best for your herd. By default, the time window is set to 5–17 hours after the start of a heat. See Custom Insemination Timing for Sexed Semenfor more information.

Reproduction Checks
This setting determines which animals appear on the Reproduction checks worklist. You can adjust the following settings:
  • The minimal DIM for an animal to be categorized as having an irregular heat
  • The minimal DIM for an animal to be categorized as non-cycling
  • Number of days after insemination for the first pregnancy check
  • Number of days after insemination for the second pregnancy check. By default, this setting is disabled.

Dry Off
This setting determines which animals appear on the Dry Off worklist. By default, the expected dry-off is set to 240 days after insemination, and animals are added to the worklist 2 days before this date.

Calving
This setting determines which animals appear on the Calving worklist. By default, the expected calving date is set to 280 days after insemination, and animals are added to the worklist 10 days before this date.
