Resolve SmartTag Issues

Use the steps below to confirm when an animal has calved or remove her from the worklist. 

  1. Open the Worklist dashboard and select the SmartTag Issues worklist. The Active tab opens by default.
  2. Review the Tag's data: 
    • Issue

    • Select the SmartTag Number to open it's information page.

  3. Read the  possible SmartTag issue types, along with recommended steps to troubleshoot each issue in the table below

  4. Select one of the following actions per tag: 
    1. Replace tag: Select to unlink the SmartTag from the animal.
    2. Unlink tag: Select  to replace the current SmartTag with a new one. You must enter the new tag number manually 


SmartTag Issue Types and How To Resolve Them

SmartTag IssueDescriptionTroubleshooting Steps
Attached incorrectlyThe SmartTag Ear is not attached correctly. For instance, because the tagger was not held in the correct position during application.Reattach the SmartTag Ear. The grey part with the tag number must face forward and be clearly visible. The yellow part goes at the back of the ear. 
Invalid positionSmartTag Neck: The SmartTag is attached to the collar but hangs at an angle rather than directly under the head. 

SmartTag Ear: The tag is slightly tilted rather than facing forward. 
Adjust the SmartTag so it hangs or sits straight under the head or inside the ear. 
Back to frontSmartTag Neck: The rear part is facing the wrong direction. The groove (or arrow) should point toward the animal’s head.

SmartTag Ear: The grey part with the tag number is not facing forward. 
Reattach the SmartTag in the correct position.
Never sent dataThe SmartTag hasn’t switched on automatically after activation. Triggered after 36 hours. Check whether the tag number is entered correctly. Replace or reassign the tag if necessary. 
Stopped sending dataThe SmartTag was active but hasn’t sent data for a prolonged period. Triggered after 24 hours by default. Check the sensor. It may be broken. Replace or reassign the tag if needed. 
Insufficient data- The sensor may be broken.
 - If the SmartTag is not in use, it may have switched from sleep to active mode. 
Use the Unlink tag or Replace tag actions. If replacing, enter the new SmartTag number to link it to the animal immediately. 
No animal linked- Data is being received from a SmartTag that is not linked to any animal.
 - If the tag is unused, it may have switched from sleep to active mode. 
Link the SmartTag to the correct animal.
