Import Animals Using a CSV File

Modified on Wed, 28 Oct at 10:53 AM

Use Import CSV in the Cow app to add animals and their information to the system in bulk. This feature is intended for users who do not use a farm management system or cannot connect via a data connector. It is mainly used during farm setup.

Before You Start

Your CSV file must include a header row. You can import the following fields:

  • Animal number (required).
  • Life number.
  • Tag 1.
  • Tag 2.
  • Tag 3.
  • Pen.
  • Animal name.
  • Birth date.
  • Insemination date.
  • Calving date.
  • Lactation.

Prepare the File

  1. Download the CSV template from the Import CSV screen in the Cow app.
  2. Enter the animal data in the template.
  3. If tag numbers do not show correctly, set the format of the relevant column to number.
  4. Save the file as a comma-delimited (.csv) file.

Import the Animals

  1. In the Cow app, select Import CSV.
  2. Upload the CSV file or drag and drop it into the window.
  3. Select Next step.
  4. Map each column in your file to the appropriate field in the app.
  5. Select the Default animal location.
  6. Select Import in the upper-right corner.

If there are errors, follow the instructions to correct the data and import the file again. After a successful import, a confirmation message appears.
