Adjust the Heat Score Sensitivity

Modified on Tue, 12 Aug at 12:18 PM

You can customize heat score sensitivity to better reflect your herd’s behavior. Sensitivity settings affect the height of the heat scores but not the number of heats detected.

When to Adjust Sensitivity

You can customize heat sensitivity settings based on your herd’s characteristics:

  • Lower sensitivity: Use if your animals show strong signs of heat. This prevents overly high heat scores. May be suitable for younger or more active cows.
  • Higher sensitivity: Use if your animals show subtle signs of heat. This helps ensure those heats are still detected with meaningful scores. May be helpful for older or high-producing cows, who tend to show less visible heat.

Note:

Adjusting the sensitivity for determining the heat scores does not affect the number of heats. It only affects the height of the scores assigned to the heats.

How to Adjust the Heat Sensitivity

  1. Go to Settings > Heat detection
  2. Within the Sensitivity tab, choose whether to customize the sensitivity by Pen or by lactation group.
    1. If you choose by Pen, select Add pen and confirm the location(s).
  3. Adjust the sensitivity slider(s):
    1. Lower scores: Use for expressive animals (generally receive lower star scores)
    2. Standard: default setting.
    3. Higher scores: Use for low-expression animals (to give them higher scores)
  4. Select Save.
