Adjust Pen-Based Correction for Heat Detection

Modified on Wed, 13 Aug at 9:14 AM

By default, Nedap Now uses pen-based correction to improve the accuracy of heat detection. This feature helps reduce false alerts by filtering out group-wide disturbances that may temporarily affect animal behavior.

What Pen-Based Correction Does

Pen-based correction identifies unusual group activity caused by external factors such as:

  • Hoof trimming

  • Sudden weather changes

  • Group handling or stress events

Rather than interpreting this group-wide increase in activity as heat, the system filters it out, resulting in more reliable and accurate heat alerts

Note

Pen correction is only applied when at least 20 cows in the pen have valid data. It will never create extra alerts, only reduce false positives.

This feature is especially helpful for grazing farms, where group behavior often shifts more dynamically due to outdoor conditions and seasonal routines.

How to Disable or Adjust Pen-Based Correction

You can adjust or disable pen-based correction settings for individual pens.

  1. Go to Settings > Heat detection.
  2. Open the Pen-based correction tab.
  3. Use the slider to disable the feature or adjust settings for specific pens.
  4. Select Save.
