Import Animals Using a CSV File

Modified on Wed, 11 Jun at 3:05 PM

Use the Import CSV feature to add animals to the system in bulk. This feature is intended for users who do not use a farm management system or cannot connect via a data connector. It’s mainly used during farm setup.

Before You Start

  • The CSV file must include a header row.

  • Only the following data can be imported: Animal number (required), Life number, Tag 1, Tag 2, Tag 3.

  • Birth dates are not supported in the import and must be added manually afterward.

Prepare the File

  1. Download the CSV template from the Cow app > Import CSV screen.

  2. Enter the animal data in the template.

  3. If tag numbers do not show correctly, set the format of the relevant column to number.

  4. Save the file as a comma-delimited (.csv) file.

Steps to import

  1. In the Cow app, select Import CSV.

  2. Upload the CSV file or drag and drop it into the window.

  3. Select Next step.

  4. Map each column in your file to the appropriate column in the app.

  5. Choose the Default animal location. This is required as pen locations cannot be imported.

  6. Select Import in the upper-right corner.

  7. If there are errors, follow the instructions to correct and re-import.

  8. After a successful import, a confirmation message appears.
