How can I interpret the herd performance graphs?

Eating

It is important to know whether you're cows are eating or not during the day. Based on the data in Velos, management decisions can be made regarding feed quality, feed timing, feed availability, push moments etc. You can find the graphs when you click on Farm and select the group, pen or farm you want to check.

The Group Eating Pattern graph shows the time of the day (24h-scale) in combination with the percentage of cows that is eating that time.

Below an example, where cows have an inconsistent availability or quality of feed.

Every day, feeding is around 8:00 AM, and pushed twice during the day: around 12:00 PM and 8:30 PM. There are several moments in the day that nearly any cow is eating, or many cows are eating. This inconsistency is related to the overall herd behavior regarding inactivity and ruminating.

Inconsistent feeding can cost milk production. More cows are waiting for feed, being inactive, instead of ruminating and producing milk.

Consistency is key

Below a graph of a consistent Group Eating Pattern, split up into the eating, ruminating, and inactive behavior of the whole group of animals that day.
