How can I decide on cow fertility with heat graphs?

Modified on Tue, 8 Apr at 12:08 PM

The graphs show up in Velos when opening a cow in the Heat attention list.

In the example below, a cow has a confirmed heat on 07-02, 46 days after calving. 21 days after the first heat, the second one came but the farmer did not choose to inseminate the cow. A Voluntary Waiting Period of 70 days is possible. The latest heat shown, 91 days after calving, will probably result in inseminating the cow.

In the next example, a cow has 2 confirmed heats within the first 38 days after calving. On day 58, she was in heat again and inseminated. 23 days after insemination the was in heat. The farmer decided to inseminate her again, even though she did not get her pregnancy check yet. If the farmer did not have this information, he would have waited for the pregnancy check to confirm the cow is not pregnant. Then the farmer has to wait till the cow is in heat again to inseminate her again. With Velos, these extra lactating days are prevented.

Below are 2 cows that are cyclical during their Voluntary Waiting Period. Because Velos tracks all heats during a lactation, the farmer can track the cyclicity of a cow. In that way, the cow can be inseminated at a later stage if needed/wanted.
