Check the location of your animals

The location of the animals in Velos should correspond to the actual location of the cow in the barn. Velos checks if this is the case. If not, the Animals at unexpected group / pen widget on the Dashboard then shows for which animals a difference in locations is detected.

Click on Show attentions in the widget to see the complete list with animals:

• Is the animal in the correct pen, but is the location in Velos wrong? Change it in Velos with the Actions button, or, if applicable, in your farm management software.
• Is the location in Velos correct, but is the animal in the wrong pen? Move the animal to the correct pen in the barn.

Set up Animals at unexpected group / pen

To check if the animals are in the correct group / pen, some settings must be done first. You can make use of:

1. The Cow Locating system (if applicable).
2. Other tag identification, for example a feed station or milking robot.

After setting up one or more methods described above, the system is ready to use.

The system combines the different methods to detect where the animals are present.

1. Use the Cow Locating system

When using the Cow Locating system, the locations of the map in VPaint are necessary. When the locations were

already drawn during installation of the Cow Locating system, no further actions are required. When the locations are not yet added to the map, follow the next steps:

1. Go to Settings > Positioning > VPaint.
2. On the tab Location draw the different locations:
   • Put the cursor in the upper corner of a drawn element, and click and hold for about 1 second on the left mouse button until the element appears in the grid.
   • Move the cursor to enlarge the element.
   • Put the cursor on the element and click on the left mouse button to fill in the details (for example the name).
   • Repeat these steps for all locations that must be drawn.
3. Click on Submit to save the locations.

2. Use other tag identification

When using another identification point in the farm, add the Behaviour component (BC) ISO Animal Location Detector.

For each identification point a BC must be added.

1. Go to Settings > System > Behavior components.
2. Click on Add behavior component.
3. In the field Type, select ISO Animal Location Detector.
4. In the field Name enter a description for the BC.
5. Click on Next.
6. In the field V-pack select the identification point that you want to use for checking the correct group / pen.
7. In the field Location select where the identification point is.
8. Click on Submit.
9. Repeat these steps for all identification points that you want to use for checking the correct group / pen.
