What is a Heat Attention?

Modified on Tue, 3 Feb at 3:40 PM

A heat attention signals that an animal is likely in heat based on changes in behavior.

How Data Is Collected

The antenna collects data from the animal’s SmartTag and sends it to Velos, the data is analysed every 2 hours. The animal does not need to be within antenna range continuously. At least one reading every 24 hours is required to store a complete 24-hour activity profile. More frequent readings are required for real-time attentions.

How a Heat Is Detected

Velos compares the animal’s current activity with its normal pattern during the same period on previous days. When activity rises above the defined threshold, the system generates a heat attention. You can adjust how sensitive the system is when generating heat attentions. For more information, see Adjusting Heat Attention Sensitivity.

Where to Find Heat Attentions

Heat attentions appear on the dashboard in the Heat detection tile. This helps you quickly identify animals that may be ready for insemination and act at the right moment.

Heat Attention Types

Velos distinguishes between two types of heat detection attentions:

  • Attention animals: Animals that are probably in heat.
  • Suspicious animals: Animals that are likely to come into heat.
